Kouki ONO

I spent two years of my master’s program in Nakase laboratory, and they were an incredibly intense and stimulating time. The Nakase Laboratory covers a wide range of research topics, which gave me the invaluable opportunity to engage in serious discussions with people from diverse academic and professional backgrounds.
Through this experience, I was able to develop the ability to think from multiple perspectives, beyond the conventional boundaries of nuclear engineering. This has become a significant asset for me. The laboratory is also highly active in international collaboration. I was given opportunities to challenge myself overseas at an early stage, which allowed me to meet many inspiring colleagues from around the world. Being able to connect with the global research community while based in the lab undoubtedly broadened my horizons.
What I came to realize most strongly during my time here is that “nothing begins unless you take on a challenge.” Opportunities do not come to those who simply wait; however, if you take a step forward on your own, the environment will respond in countless ways. I believe that the courage to take that step does not require special talent—it is something anyone can develop through determination and motivation.
I was truly fortunate to be in an environment where I could engage in serious discussions about management perspectives and the future of Japan with Professor Nakase, Dr. Okamura, and others. This laboratory has a culture that actively supports and encourages those who are willing to challenge themselves. To those who are considering joining the laboratory, I strongly encourage you not to hold back. Take the initiative and seize opportunities for yourself. That single step will surely lead to experiences far greater than you can imagine.

Ayoob ILYAS

It was a great 1 year at my first ever laboratory stay, I'll genuinely miss the feeling of having coffee or sandwich breaks.
At the start I was worried how it would be in a small lab with work being done in wide, new fields but soon I got the flow and carried on with ease. We all students were tight knit, with the professors always around too. I learnt a lot from people around even for a niche project as mine, from scratch, and even got to present at a conference!
As long as you have strong ideals and personal goals, I’m sure you can convey it and move forward with mutual growth ^-^

Charlotte ORGONASI

I could not have hoped for a more welcoming environment than Nakase Laboratory!
Nakase Lab members are dynamic, deeply committed and always supportive of my work. Having every day this consistent care is a precious environment to evolve in as a researcher, and I am most thankful to all the team members for that.
I was also lucky to be part of the fruitful collaboration between JAEA and Nakase Lab. The four months spent working together were a real privilege, rewarding both professionally and personally.
Thank you so much!

Ria MISHIMA

It took me a total of eight years to get my doctorate, both in my doctoral program and as a working adult doctoral student. When I first entered the doctoral program, my research abilities and my physical and mental health were far from perfect. As a result, it took me many years to improve my skills in the first few years. However, Professor Nakase did not give up on me and was patient and patient with me. Even after I resumed my research in earnest, Professor Nakase patiently and carefully guided me, even though I had many shortcomings. Now I can work on my research with confidence, and I am enjoying my days as a research staff member at JAEA. My experience in the Nakase Laboratory was a great opportunity for me to grow. There may be working adults who want to get a doctorate but are worried about whether they can balance work and research. However, in the Nakase Laboratory, you can conduct research both experimentally and computationally, so you will surely find a research topic that you can balance with your work. In addition, we actively discuss research on a daily basis using online meetings, so I am sure you will be able to achieve your doctorate. Please try to step into the Nakase Laboratory.

Alaaeldine Shaker Mohammed SALEH

I am an associate professor at Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority and have stayed in Nakase lab for 10 months as a visiting scholar within the JSPS Invitational Fellowship program. During my stay, I studied the synthesis of diamide extractants, their characterization, and use for the separation of critical metals.
The research environment in the lab is supportive and the atmosphere is multicultural and friendly. Nakase lab is a unique opportunity to exchange experiences and opinions with lab members. Last but not least, it is not only the scientific and professional aspect, the lab also provides a special social experience for personal development through collaboration with lab members including professors, researchers, students, secretary and research associates, all have the willingness to help and support.

Gagad RAHMADI

I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow at Nakase Lab. My time here has been invaluable, expanding my knowledge and skills in nuclear fuel cycle research. The guidance, support, and collaboration from professors and colleagues have enriched my understanding immensely. I truly appreciate the welcoming environment and insightful discussions that have shaped my perspective. Thank you for the invaluable experience and knowledge—I will carry these lessons forward in my future research and career.

Taiga SUZUKI

I learned so much during my nine months at Nakase Lab. From attending conferences to visiting facilities, I had a lot of experiences I wouldn’t have gotten elsewhere. I also got along well with the staff and researchers, which made my time there really enjoyable.
If I had to give advice to new students joining the lab, it would be: don’t wait around for instructions—take the initiative and pitch your ideas! The more proactive you are, the more opportunities you'll find!

Tetus RATTANASIRIMANEEWATE

I had a really great time at Nakase Lab. The research topics offered in the lab are very flexible and the lab's members are very open and supportive.
If you are interested in nuclear studies with a lab environment with a modern mindset. This place is for you!
